Cosplay at Poptropi-Con, the next frontier!

$

Hey everyone! Remember my last post about how the next island will probably have a city theme (possibly based on San Francisco due to the bridge and palm trees)? Well, there’s more…

Thanks to some clever connections by PHB authors and readers, we may have even more information about this new island, which appears to involve some sort of Poptropica convention where Poptropicans have taken up cosplay (costume play)! Check out these recent Daily Pops showing off some pretty good (and pretty bad) Poptropica cosplays of characters from various islands!

conDailyPops

This may be inspired by the yearly San Diego Comic Con, which takes place in, you guessed it, San Diego. It is a giant convention for everything comics, featuring comic books, toys, movie announcements, and some legendary cosplay.

For those unaware, cosplay (short for costume play) is when a fan dresses up as their favorite character. Of course, this could be really good, or really, really bad…

bad-cosplay-costume-fails-23

So we have cosplay and a city setting probably in southern California — what could this mean? As predicted by others, I am going to say this will concern some sort of (San Francisco?) Poptropica Convention. But that doesn’t have a good ring to it! How about the Poptropi-Con? Much better!

And here we have a Daily Pop sneak peek of the actual convention center which is sporting some nice “con” signs. This image serves as final confirmation that the new island is indeed some sort of Poptropica Convention (Poptropi-Con?).

So what do you think? Are you excited for a new Comic-Con based island? What do you think the plot could be about? Do you think Poptropi-Con has a good ring to it? Share your ideas in the comments below!

Poptropi-Con: the next Island adventure?

Hey everyone! Remember Fuzzy-B’s post about Poptropi-Con about a week ago? Well, PHB reader Slippery Raptor went hunting for more clues to the island and discovered a recent Daily Pop discreetly containing the words “P-Con”, likely short for Poptropica Convention!

pcon

Sounds like it’s for a convention (as in MineCon or VidCon), plus the ticker on the bus (top-left corner) even says “conven”. I suspect this may be a future island, and according to the bag the guy is carrying, it’ll be out later this year, 2014!

With Survival on its third episode and Atlantis’s second episode due sometime today, I’d guess that “P-Con” may not be ready until around September or October. I really think this will be a cool island!

PHB Sneak Peeks: PoptropiCon confirmed!

Hi Gs,

The rumored convention island is a reality! Let me explain. :P

While doing my creepy daily check on Poptropica’s servers, I found a strange title on the list of game files titled “con1″. I checked it out, and sure enough it was what I thought — the rumored convention island. In fact, it has the same name as what we’ve been calling it, PoptropiCon Island! :D After toying around a bit with the file names, I finally got into the island and found these amazing scenes.

conBack1 conBack2 conBack3

Check out Pepe’s Pizza Puffs, which was also posted as a sneak peek on the Creators’ Blog along with a look at a pizza puff costume – could that be a bonus costume for members?

Also, con1 does mean that there will be other cons, thus meaning that this will be an episodic adventure. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like having to wait a whole month before I can continue my adventure. I honestly like a story that you can play through and complete in one sitting.

From the looks of it, your task for episode 1 of PoptropiCon Island will be to get inside the convention center, considering that all the locations in it are outside.

Now, my thoughts: I am so glad that this is happening. If you saw the pictures in the gallery above, then you definitely know why I am so excited. The attention to detail is pretty awesome, and the premise is just as neat.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this unreleased tid bit. More info about the island is coming soon. :D

Poptropicon member items, Comic Boy, and the return of Lands!

Hi Gs,

What isn’t happening in the world of Poptropica? Prepare to have your mind blown with all the new things happening in the Poptropica universe!  :D

Poptropicon Member Items

Soon after I posted about the upcoming Poptropicon Island, I found a new item in the files titled “Poptropicon Poster”. The button, instead of “use” or “costumize”, is print. Also, this is a Members Only poster/desktop background! (Don’t worry, non-members, we’ll post the background for everyone to download when it comes out. ;) )

poptropiconPoster

In addition, there will also be a pizza puff costume, as mentioned in my last Pop-Con post. :p

Comic Boy

Found by PHB reader Big Kid, this typo on the Creators’ Blog may reveal something about the Shark Boy mystery. As you can see in the picture below, the character we know as Comic Kid on the official blog is labelled as “Comic Boy”:

comic boy

While this may just be a typo, the use of boy in the name suggests that at one time Comic Kid was supposed to be Comic Boy. That said, could Shark Boy’s sudden name change have something to do with original names? Also, could Comic Boy be the answer to the never found username of Comic Kid’s account? If you find anything, be sure to tell us in the comments. :D

The Return of Poptropica Labs: Lands

Something familiar has popped up on the game list lately: lands. This project has been stirring, and the fact that it’s on the game list means that it will be converted to an SUI version.

lands

When I looked into it a little more, I found a strange “hammer” item listed along with everything else. A hammer wasn’t included in the original lands, so what could it’s purpose be here? Perhaps to help build things? :p

hammerLands

This update might mean that lands will be available to all soon. You can get ready by reading my review of the feature here. :D

Survival 4 Video Walkthrough

I recently finished my Survival 4 video walkthrough! :D We used a different one on the PHB this time around because I had mine out a little late, so I figured I should tell everyone who does use them. ;) You can always subscribe to my YouTube channel to get updates whenever I make new video walkthroughs and more fun things. :D

Hehe no shame in self-promotion. ;)

Hi Gs,

This is a quick post to alert you guys that some official details for the next Poptropica island (which will again be episodic) was just posted to the Creators’ Blog. Get ready for PoptropiCon Island (although we knew about it before :P )! You can find some sneak peeks in the PHB’s PoptropiCon post category, and we’ll be sure to post even more in the weeks to come. Check out the sweet logo below:

Everyone is dressed up for the biggest sci-fi and fantasy convention in Poptropica. At PoptropiCon, the most important thing isn’t what you do — it’s how you look doing it!

I’m really excited for this island — it feels very Mocktropica-like. Also, looking at the description, is the main focus of the island going to be costumes & fashion? Tell me your thoughts in the comments. :D

Are you excited for PoptropiCon? PHB commenters Fast Flame and Advika have speculated that it may be a cross between Fashion Crisis Island (a runner-up in the CYDI contest) and Mocktropica. There’s a new sneak peek on the Creators’ Blog – and I’d show it to you, but first, let me take a selfie.

Just kidding, that was the sneak peek! #poptropiconyeah #nofilter #thecamerajustwentoffiswearimnotamodel #doilookcute #yerawizardharry #wegotqueequegscoffeeafterwards #selfiesunday #orwhateverdayitis #dontjudge

Okay, yeah, moving on… have you noticed that the Creators’ Blog made a few subtle changes in design? HP did touch on some changes they made earlier, but now there’s more. It’s now a little wider, and if you don’t have AdBlock, you may notice an ad in the sidebar. Here’s a before and after pic:

before and after PCBBy the way, the Creators’ Blog isn’t the only place that shows sneak peeks – the Daily Pop has tons more, and in case you missed it, the PHB now has the complete collection of Daily Pops archived all on one page for easy viewing – almost four years’ worth! Click here to see it all! Here’s a preview of just a few of the many awesome Poptropica idea images you’ll find there:

Those are for the Tribes of Poptropica, though of course the DP archive contains much more. But if you’re proud of your Poptropolis tribe, you may want to check out the PHB’s various pages for each tribe – each has been updated with concept art, whole common room images, and more! If nothing else, at least take a look at my witty captions. :P

Also, thanks to the many of you who have taken the PHB readers’ survey! If you haven’t taken it yet, it’ll only take a few minutes, so please do – it gives you a chance to tell us how we’re doing and what you’d like the PHB to focus on! Results are still being gathered, so get heard today!

UPDATE: One last thing – the Android version of the Poptropica app has been delayed again, according to Poptropica’s official Twitter. Last we heard, they were hoping for a September release, but now they’re not promising anything…

BTS Overview & Theory – PoptropiCon Ep. 1

BTS - Poptropicon 1

Hey guys! HPuterpop, Samwow5, and I have decided to start a new series together, called Behind the Scenes Overview & Theory. We thought that it would be best to take all the knowledge that we can gather from behind-the-scenes (BTS) Poptropica files/coding and compile them together in one simple-to-find place. Plus, with three minds thinking at once, a more spot-on theory is sure to come out. :)

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW (but that’s what you want, isn’t it?)

Overview of evidence

To kick off the series, let’s start with an island soon to be: PoptropiCon (Ep. 1: Line Forms Here). We have circled/boxed certain things in red in each picture that we think are important/just want to mention. Click to enlarge all the images.

Poptropicon alley bts images 1 - edit Poptropicon alley bts images 2 - edit

If you’ve been keeping up with PopCon sneak peeks, you’ve probably seen the background above before. The window that has been circled are noticeable in both pictures. It looks as if we, or someone else, breaks in or out of the building.  The “Thor” advertisement is circled because dialog related to it is shown further into the post.

Poptropicon alley bts text 4 - edit

This was also found, possibly representing a fight of sorts. The “glass breaking noise” might be from the window in the pictures above.

Now for some dialogue.

Poptropicon bathrooms bts text 1 - edit

Poptropicon bathrooms bts text 2 - edit

As you can see, this is why the “Thor” advertisement was circled before (Bucky Lucas plays him in a movie). Other things that we found connections to were a Fremulon mask and the time of a cosplay contest (more on that below). Now, all of this dialog is from Poptropicans waiting in line for the bathroom. Why do we want to get into the bathroom ASAP? The boxed text in this next picture may explain why.

Poptropicon center bts images 1 - edit

In this image, you can see that the cosplay contest begins at noon.

Poptropicon parking bts text 1 - edit

Poptropicon parking bts text 2 - edit

Here, we can see where we get the Fremulon mask, earning it by speaking Fremulon. We also wanted to box the dialog about pizza and costume creation because we found image connections.

Poptropicon parking bts images 1 - edit Poptropicon parking bts images 3 - edit

The pictures speak for themselves, aside from the squid mask. That was circled simply for the fact that this island is definitely going to be filled with cool, customizable objects/outfits.

Poptropicon center bts text 1 - edit

Hmm… a selfie? A wizard? Sounds familiar

22c3b-selfie

Yep, that looks about right. Plus, it seems that we have already met this man by the bathroom.

Poptropicon center bts text 2 - editPoptropicon center bts text 3 - edit

It looks like we need a ticket for some reason, huh? Could we have been looking for the “Power Amulet” in the bathroom?

Poptropicon alley bts text 1 - edit

Poptropicon alley bts text 2 - edit

Poptropicon alley bts text 3 - edit

Here we go, the final facts. There are a lot of guards/bouncers around, along with VIP sections and long lines. But why would we need a catapult? o_o

PoptropiCon is the hottest ticket in town. It’ll take all your wits — and more than a few disguises — to crash the party!

Yes, we can’t forget the island synopsis that has been given to us. It definitely backs up our conclusion…

Final theory

Based on the evidence above, we have more or less agreed on this concluding theory:

We don’t have a ticket to PoptropiCon and need to get in. By helping the people around us, we either manage to get a ticket, get progressively closer to the front of the line (although it’s a bathroom line, so… XD ), or use a catapult to bust in through a window.  There are a lot of guards around, presumably because a few famous people are inside.

I know, I know, not the deepest theory out there, but it’s the best we got. Besides… it look like PoptropiCon is right around the corner! ;)

Advertisement update

Some new ads are finally here, the first promoting the new movie “The BoxTrolls” (which btw looks incredible :P ). You’ll need to watch a lengthy trailer for the film in order to get a cool new “Eggs costume“.

In other news, you’ll get a card upon signing in entitled “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge“. When used, a bucket of ice will be poured onto your Poptropican’s head. As of late, the Creators seem to be pretty involved with this project, having many of their characters take on the challenge and hints of the game’s founder, Jeff Kinney, taking it on as well. Of course that remains to be seen, but the card is still pretty cool. :P

And have you seen my rendition of the challenge? :D

New map features

If you’ve checked the map recently, you’ll know that the PoptropiCon island microcosm has been added (of course it will be released on Thursday), alongside a Land icon that takes you to the feature (and no, the upcoming update has not been added yet). They added yet another map page to hold these two, with only 6 islands being displayed. A load was obviously taken off of the previous page, but now that page is just proportionally off and only holds 5.

Revisiting the case of the missing shark

If you’ve been following the PHB for a while, then you’ll know about the Shark Boy mystery that has never really been answered. However, if you think about it, you’ll start to find some similarities between it and other mysteries of Poptropica.

sharkBoySimilar

Monster Carnival island was an old island (a classic) that was never released and was mysteriously taken off the map. For 6 years the mystery was left alone, the Creators hinting at it here and there. One time was different, however – they actually acknowledged that it was gone. (If you don’t know already, it was finally released about 8 months ago)

Not since the introduction of the Costumizer or the removal of the Monster Carnival map icon have we made an update this momentous.

If you compare that to what happened to Shark Boy, it’s pretty similar – even about the Creators acknowledging the disappearance -

The second Island we ever released, way back in 2007, was Shark Tooth Island, which featured the massive Booga Shark, a helpful medicine man, and one very special boy whose name we no longer recall.

So what does this mean? Is Shark Boy going to make a miraculous return? Will we ever find out why he mysteriously vanished? And could this all this be a publicity stunt for something bigger – a new island with Shark Boy as the villain (hey, no one said he was a good guy :P )? Tell me what you think in the comments. :D

Eww, spooder! :P

Big things happening on Thursday!

Hi Gs,

The Creators just posted a reminder that PoptropiCon ep. 1 is coming tomorrow for members (and based on past releases, it’ll probably come out around 5:00-ish EST). Also, the final episode of Atlantis is coming out for everyone. Along with that, some other things are going to be released…

First, the mentioned update for Poptropica Land is going to be released (if you don’t remember, it includes pets and furniture). More on that in SD’s post below!

popland update

Also, they’re going to release their first ever video walkthrough (possibly for PoptropiCon), which is pretty big news. I’m excited to see if they narrate it like past videos of theirs. I’m also curious as to whether it will be free to the public or if you will have to pay for it on the official Tips and Tricks app.

This all remains to be seen, but won’t this also conflict with the release of PoptropiCon (assuming that this will be the walkthrough that they upload)? It’s basically giving away how to beat the whole island just after it’s released – talk about extreme island champion racing! :P If it does turn out that you have to pay, don’t waste your money and consider checking out my channel (and possibly subscribing) where I’ll post the walkthrough as soon as I finish it. ;)

And did you notice another recent post on the PCB promoting PoptropiCon? It confirms that the island will be centered around the Costumizing feature! Why does that seem familiar…?

Anyway, just wanted to pop in. Tell me what you think in the comments. :D

Thursday wrap-up: Land pets, DS trailer, & CatCF pics

As you guys know, a lot of stuff happened this past Thursday. This post will be a wrap-up of all the updates/announcements, other than the release of PoptropiCon and Mission Atlantis (already mentioned by Samwow5).

However I do want to say that PoptropiCon has to be one of my favorite islands right now. I love how there were random Poptropicans (that you could customize) that just roamed around the island (along with the Poptropicans you could actually talk to). It made it feel more like real life, ya know? :)

landAnyway, let’s get to it, shall we? First off, PopLand has been updated to include animals. Most of them will harm you, but a few are nice and will mind their own business. (For the PHB’s guide to Land, click here!) Sadly, the furniture that we saw in the sneak peek was nowhere to be found or earned. Hopefully they will be added soon because in my opinion, the animals aren’t that big of a deal. They can hurt us, but while we can’t tame them, we can get rid of them by bringing them to lava. Click to enlarge the images:

land 6 land 8 land 3 land 4 land 2 land 5

To emphasize the update, the PopLand tour page now reads:

Don’t be surprised if you find yourself face to face with a blue-feathered tigerphant or an elusive fox monkey while exploring in Poptropica Land! Strange creatures will be showing up in the next version of the Poptropica Land labs project. Just be careful, they’re not all friendly!

You may also get an invitation to take a survey about Land, which you can check out here. From past experience, the Creators do listen to our suggestions, so be sure to let them know what you’d like to see in future Land updates!

In other news, the Forgotten Islands 3DS game that was recently mentioned now has a trailer! The title of the video indicates that the game will only be available in North America (at first/for now?).

As the video says, it will be released on October 14, 2014, but you can pre-order it now. According to the Creators…

The 3DS version of Forgotten Islands includes all of the content from the iOS game, including seasonal costume packs, and is presented in stereoscopic 3D! You’ve never seen Poptropica like this before.

…so if you’ve played it before, it’ll probably be the same game, just on the DS. ;) To see what the iOS version of Forgotten Islands is like, check out the PHB’s walkthrough here!

Now onto our last big subject. The Creators wanted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by showing us some of the concept art (and their final versions) they made for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Island, which came out in 2012.

We will show you the pictures below, but to see what the Creators had to say, click here. Poptropica also got to post on the actual Roald Dahl website, which you can read by clicking here. Note that the two posts are not the same, so you probably want to check out both of them (click to enlarge images). ;)

Have you ever wondered why Poptropica tends to release islands on Thursdays? While this doesn’t explain why Thursday exactly (Friday in some time zones), they did recently address the question (brought up by Poptrickia) via their official Twitter:

weekends off

PoptropiCon (guide here) had its first episode debut just last week for members, but if you’re wondering what’s up next, a good place to look are the Daily Pop sneak peeks. Let’s take a look at what we’ll be seeing inside the convention center (click to enlarge images):

sneakpeek_08-29-14 sneakpeek_08-25-14 sneakpeek_08-22-14 sneakpeek_08-26-14 sneakpeek_09-02-14 sneakpeek_08-20-14 sneakpeek_08-27-14 sneakpeek_09-01-14 sneakpeek_08-28-14 sneakpeek_09-03-14 sneakpeek_09-04-14

Among all the random tidbits, it looks like there’ll be a booth for a comic hero called Elf Archer — created by some guy called “Stan Ditko”: a reference to Marvel Comics co-creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Plus, there’s even a Balloon Boy collectible that can be seen on a table!

And not far from the My Little Pony mimicry (“Pony Bros”… even the Daily Pop’s caption is “Brony”), there’s a poster for “Lava Twins” — it may be a long shot, but could this be a reference to a film called The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl? Yes, you read that right, “Shark Boy”: like the beloved Poptropica character who no longer is. (You can read all about the Shark Boy Mystery here!)

sharkmuseum

Although it’s been about two years and ten islands since Super Villain Island, Brave Tomato recently uncovered this little snippet of Poptropica Creator Jeff Kinney working on it on a computer. It may not look like much, but it’s a pretty neat find nonetheless:

jeff working on svi

This came from a “making of” bonus feature on the Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days DVD, where they talked briefly about Jeff and Poptropica. (Jeff is also the author of the Wimpy Kid series.) Speaking of Jeff Kinney, I wonder if/when we’ll get to see his ice bucket challenge? ;)

In other news, issue 19 of the PHB magazine, The POPCORN, releases this Sunday, Sept 7th, so be sure to have your creative entries sent in to phbpopcorn(at)gmail(dot)com before then! That’s all for now (or TAFN, as HP the hip one likes to say)! Keep on poppin’ on, Poptropicans. :)

Hey Poptropicans! A new common room has been added to PoptropiCon Island: Facili-Tee, located right outside the convention center! Funny that they released this after the island came out, but at least we have a new common room… that hasn’t happened for the past two islands. :P

By the way, have you found the special “7” balloon in the common rooms yet? It’s quite rare, so it may take several tries, but you’ll win a snazzy 7th birthday costume if you manage to pop it. Good news: the Creators say they’ll be turning up the frequency of the balloon’s appearance, so there’s now a better chance of finding it. :) Here’s a video from HPuterpop showing what that looks like:

Poptropica’s birthday party only lasts through September, so once the month ends, so will your chances to get the special costume and free balloon in the Store – so pick those up quick! Also, you can click here to check out the recap of the PHB’s celebration of Pop’s 7th birthday. :)

Have you noticed that PoptropiCon’s “Mighty Action Force” parodies some of the characters in Marvel’s The Avengers? Gold Face is Iron Man, World Guy is Captain America, and Elf Archer is Hawkeye or Black Widow (not to be confused with the Black Widow of Counterfeit Island!). It checks out:

Anyway, just a heads-up that you can find cool trivia facts like this and more on all the PHB’s island trivia pages, which are all listed under the Island Help hub page. For more PoptropiCon trivia, click here!

Daily Pop: legendary E. Vile & furniture

Among all the recent Daily Pop sneak peeks, these two in particular may be of interest – first is “Props to You”, which features the Legendary Swords villain E. Vile in his spectacular helmet (and your rocket) as decorations in the PoptropiCon convention hall, and the second is a preview of some furniture, most likely as an upcoming feature for Land (Labs). Here they are:

Props to You: May your legend never fade. Furnished: Set the place up however you'd like.

Will we ever see a return for Legendary Swords? They used to promise a battle arena at the end of the quest, but this message has inconspicuously been removed from the ending for some time now (after they failed to deliver on it for three years, I might add :P ). RIP. :(

ls11As for Land, it’s likely we’ll get to play with furniture sometime soon, to further develop the many cool houses (among other awesome things) people have been making — but for now, maybe the PHB’s Land (Labs) guide will help you members get started with this cool feature if you want some tips.

BTS - Poptropicon 2

Hey everyone, and welcome back to our BTS Overview & Theory series! This time, we’ll be covering PoptropiCon, Ep. 2: Spoiler Alert, written by myself, Samwow5, and HPuterpop (thanks to Fishy for writing the last BTSO&T). To read our BTSO&T for the first episode of PoptropiCon, click here.

(By the way: PoptropiCon, Ep. 1 is now available on the Poptropica app for 99 cents!)

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW (but that’s what you want, isn’t it?)

Overview of evidence

In the last episode of PoptropiCon, we broke into the building by using a catapult (which went along with what we predicted). Sure, this got us in to the building… but what next?

Card Deck

Card Deck (see card images below)

The winner of the PoptropiCon costume contest will earn a one-of-a-kind prize. See if you can put together the ultimate villain outfit, but beware — the action at this convention is about to get real!

From the synopsis of the episode, we can already tell that we will be competing in a costume contest (the recently posted Poptropicon 2 poster also supports this).

Anyway, let’s first take a look at some of the major Spoiler Alert themed Daily Pop sneak peeks. As with all images in this post, please click to enlarge the pictures.

As you may be able to gather yourself, there will also be some sort of card contest. That’s two contests already… could there be any more? Below are what the cards will look like.

Dirt Claude Elf Archer Gold Face Fashion Ninja Hench Bot Meow Bot Mutton Chops Omegon Pony Girl Teen Arachnid Trash Collector World Guy

Phew, I think we got them all! I also want to mention (from the Daily Pops above) that the last two images hint at us having to avoid surveillance or something to that effect. Now let’s take a look at some behind-the-scenes dialog and text:

Well, we seem to have clarified the card game, which is related to the Poptropica-invented franchise “Mighty Action Force”. The dialog also tells us that we will be looking for an Elf Archer costume. Could the card game be related to this? Maybe what we have to accomplish in this episode is just to collect the perfect items for the perfect costume.

We also wanted to mention how this episode will in fact have a common room! If you didn’t know already, episode 1 was updated with a common room (after its release, strangely enough).

In the “Demo Hall” image, you can see the edge of the “Showdown” Daily Pop. In the last image, you can see the edge of the “Galaxy Litigation” (poster) Daily Pop. In multiple images above, you can see posters for the costume contest. Nothing else is really given away, but it gives us a good sense of what we will see.

There isn’t anything else worth showing to determine the plot, so here is our final theory! :)

Final theory

In PoptropiCon – Episode 2: Spoiler Alert, we will put together the best costume possible to win the costume contest. To do this, we go around doing certain tasks, such as winning a Mega Action Force card game. But before we can win, we have to collect all the best cards.

That may not sound like the deepest theory ever, but hopefully it sparks some ideas! Are you excited for PoptropiCon: Ep. 2? We definitely are! :D
